Weldon John Carlin

Weldon John Carlin passed away June 3, 2022, at the Logan Manor Community Health Services at the age of 81. He was born January 18, 1941, in Speed, KS to John Edward and Helen (McCall) Carlin.

Willie grew up in Logan and Lenora, KS and was a 1959 Lenora High School graduate. He went on to attend a trade school in Kansas City for auto body work. Willie married Carol Glennemeier on February 9, 1961, and lived in Kansas City until he completed his schooling.

They moved back to Norton and started 60 years of life together which included bringing up four kids, Kathy, Marcelyn, John, and Brad. Willie worked for 48 years at New Look Body Shop in Norton, KS. He served on the Norton City Fire Department from 1966-1984 and was the Chief from 1981-1984. Throughout his career he worked with 52 different men on the fire department. Willie was instrumental in building the fire department into what it is today. In his spare time, you would almost always find Willie and Carol together, from playing dice and games in the evenings to camping and traveling together. For their 50th wedding anniversary their family held a game night. Willie also enjoyed toy trains and woodworking with a scroll saw.

Willie is survived by his children: Kathy Carlin of Norton, Marcelyn Carlin of Hill City, John Carlin of Norton, and Brad Carlin and his wife Chris of Norcatur; grandchildren: Kyle & Stephanie Carlin and their kids Lauren and Evan, Donald and Kylie Eggleston and their kids, Vicki, Kori, Liam, and Jade, and Brian Carlin, Heath Welch and his daughter, Raelynn, Alex Fischer, and Chance Keiswetter; brother, Harold Carlin of McCook, NE, and sister, Irene Koester of Logan, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol; grandson, Lucas Welch; sister, Dorothy Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Teresa Carlin, and niece, Deb Koester.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the First Church of God in Norton with fellowship to follow.
