Melvin Pfannenstiel, age 86, of Hays, Kansas, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at his home.
He was born June 19, 1936, in Hays, Kansas, to Casper and Georgine (Dreiling) Pfannenstiel. He married Cora Lee (Schmidt) on January 2, 1960, in Severine, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2020.
He was a bookkeeper and did accounting most all of his life. He worked for TMP-Marian High School, Wasinger Brothers Plumbing-Heating and A/C, Bruce Weilert Company, Northwestern Office Supply, Vitztum Commercial Flooring, and Fox & Co.
Mel grew up in Hays, was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy, he attended one year at St. Francis Seminary, and was a graduate of Fort Hays State College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Mark Pfannenstiel, Hays, KS; and Cindy Pfannenstiel, Pensnett, England; his brother, Marvin Pfannenstiel, Hays, KS; his sister, Donna Harkness, Hays, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; his son, Matthew; his brother, Irvin Pfannenstiel; his sisters, Wilma Staab; Anita Pfeifer, JoAnn Winkley; and Darlene Bender.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 13th and Ash, Hays, Kansas. Military Honors will be conducted by the Hays V.F.W. Post 9076.
A vigil service and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, and from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. Tuesday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
