Lifelong Trego County resident Dorothy Lynd, age 88, passed away on January 7th, 2024 at Trego County Lemke Long Term Care. She was born on December 26th, 1935, in WaKeeney to Horrace and Hannah (Becker) Hobbick.
Dorothy graduated from Trego Community High School with the class of 1954. On August 20th, 1954, she was united in marriage to Delmer Wesley Lynd in WaKeeney. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage together. She was a farm wife for most of her life. She loved being on the farm, enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, playing cards with friends, and attending her children’s activities. Hosting family for Sunday dinners was another thing she enjoyed.
Those left to mourn her passing are her son Todd (Chrisi) of Hays, a daughter-in-law, Penny Hafliger of WaKeeney; four grandchildren, Brooke (Brad) Fabrizius of Manhattan; Corey (Justin) Sherfick of WaKeeney, Trey Lynd of Severance Colorado; Chase (Becca) Lynd of Severance Colorado, great-grandchildren, Brecken and Brittyn Fabrizius of Manhattan; Jackson, Madden, and Quinn Sherfick of WaKeeney, a sister Sheila (Bob) Fritts of Hill City, a brother Wayne (Kerry) Hobbick of Voda, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmer, a son Toby Del Lynd, and a sister Wanda Funk.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Contributions can be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home at 336 North 12th Street, WaKeeney, KS, 67672.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, with burial to follow at the WaKeeney Cemetery.
