Peggy Jean (Presley) Lee, 95, Hays, died Thursday, February 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born April 23, 1928, in Cox City, Oklahoma, to John and Alma (Swift) Presley. On July 7, 1951, she married Kid Sherwood (K.S. “Tommy”) Lee in Marlow, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1999. Peggy was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell until transitioning to the role of full-time homemaker in 1958. She made homes in Sweetwater, TX, Sterling, CO, Pampa, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Duncan, OK, and Arvada, CO before settling in Hays in 1977. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sisters of St. Agnes Associates, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary “Noodle O’s”, and a Thursday swimmer at The HaysMed Center for Health Improvement. Peggy loved working in the yard, reading, her dogs, and her nightly wine.
She is survived by her son Dane Lee, his wife Elizabeth Olmo-Lee, and their children Alexandra and Ian of Fairway, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy, son, Donald Shane Lee, infant son, Mark Lee, two brothers, Johnny and Donald Presley, and her sister, Katherine Busterna.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 10:00 am until 10:45 on Wednesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays. A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to TMP Endowment.
