Sandra Rae Counter, 75, passed away on June 9, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. Sandy was born on August 25, 1948, to Raymon and Queenie (Smith) Critchfield in Oberlin, Kansas.

Sandy was raised near Colby, Dresden and Oberlin, Kansas and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1966. After high school, she worked at the bakery in Oberlin for a year to save money to attend McCook Beauty Academy. After graduating from the academy in 1968, she worked as a beautician and eventually was able to open her own shop in Oberlin called Sandy’s Magic Mirror.

On April 13, 1980, she married Fred Edward Counter at the Oberlin Methodist Church. They made their home on the Counter family farm southwest of Oberlin and were blessed with two children, Lemilla and Fred Jonathan. They faithfully attended Lund Covenant Church and the Oberlin Methodist Church over the years. Sandy enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and meeting monthly with the Calico Gals. She was always up for a good conversation, and she loved to support her children and grandchildren in their various activities such as 4-H, football, tennis, music concerts, and dance recitals.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymon and Queenie Critchfield, her husband, Fred Edward Counter, and brother, Herbert Critchfield. She is survived by her children, Lemilla (David) Arp of McCook, Nebraska and Jonathan (Elisabeth) Counter of Oberlin, Kansas; grandchildren, Liliana Harris, Harlowe Arp, Cameo Counter, Brennan Counter, and Henry Counter; and brother, Martin Critchfield of Denver, Colorado.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 1:00-7:00 p.m. at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery following the service.
