August 29, 1942 - September 6, 2023

Vivian D. McClung, 81 years young, longtime resident of Goodland, Kansas passed away at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas on September 6, 2023. She was born on August 29, 1942 on the family farm in Cheyenne County Kansas to Rudolf and Christina (Lippert) Schritter.

Vivian attended rural county schools and completed her education at the Sherman Community High School class of 1960.       

She married Larry McClung on September 4, 1960;  they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past Monday. To this union three children were born, Gary, Denise and Sherry. 

She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for many years and then joined her husband and son as the secretary of McClung’s Appliance until her retirement in 2009.

Vivian enjoyed weekly bowling leagues, traveling to bowling tournaments, visits to casinos – especially Cripple Creek, CO where she loved playing the dollar slots. She enjoyed watching and cheering on the Denver Broncos. 

Vivian really enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities.  She was a 4-H leader for the Warren Star Busy Bees.  Vivian was an avid gardener, she learned the art of gardening, canning, butchering chickens and milking cows from her mother at an early age. She also enjoyed playing pitch and pinochle, fishing, boating and riding the motorcycle with Larry.  Her favorite TV shows were Wheel of Fortune, NCIS and all cooking shows.

Vivian is survived by her husband Larry McClung of the home, her three children Gary (Laura) McClung, Denise (Patrick) Fitzgibbons, both of Goodland and Sherry McClung of La Crosse;  her grandchildren Shandi Shaw, Zane (Rachel) Gilmer, Jason (Vanessa) McClung, Theresa (Nathan) Sears, Ana (Mark) Musial, Jonathan McClung, Tiffany Skinner, Jonah McClung, Leaona (Jacob) Anderson, Ashtin McClung and 12 great-grandchildren; her sister Gertrude Swayne of Goodland and brother Herbert Schritter of Colby.   

Vivian was proceeded in death by her parents Rudolf and Christina (Lippert) Schritter, her brother Albert Schritter and infant sister Evelyn Schritter.     

Memorial contributions may be designated to the 4-H Shooting Sports and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
