Simone M. Shoemaker died on March 28, 2024, at 97 years of age. Simone Marie Thérèse Victorine Noël was born on January 21, 1927, in Bleret, Belgium to parents Gérard Hubert Alfred Noël and Rosalie Marie Thérèse Victorine Servais. She married United States soldier Alfred B. Shoemaker on February 14, 1946, in Bleret, Belgium. Simone immigrated to the United States in 1946 and became a naturalized citizen on February 6, 1956.
Simone and her husband co-owned and operated the Hays City Bakery in Hays, Kansas. She was an avid traveler, gardener, and seamstress, and was known for her beautifully decorated cakes and pastries.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Erica Bollig.
Simone is survived by her children, Marcel and Megan Shoemaker, Suzanne and Mick Bollig, and Alan Shoemaker. Simone had 13 grandchildren: Noël and Charlie Servais-Leach, Michael and Maxine Ali Bollig, Jonathan and Carissa Bollig, Dylan and Sarah Shoemaker, Elizabeth Quenzer, Brianna and Travis Brandt, Brendan and Kennya Arnold, Lindsey Middleton, Aaron and Sarah Shoemaker, Brandy Clifford, Stephanie and Brock Holzmeister, and Brian Shoemaker. She has 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
