Great Bend – Carolyn Ann Musil, 76, passed away March 28, 2024 at the University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus. She was born April 21, 1947 in Beloit, KS the daughter of Walter Henry and Wilma Marguerite Hobbie Reich. She was a secretary at Kansas State University and Osborne County Extension Service, and later, a farm wife and homemaker.
Carolyn graduated from Downs High School in 1965 and was a recipient of the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award. On May 3, 1980 she married Elmer Lee Musil at First Lutheran Church, Manhattan, KS and they subsequently moved to Musil farm at Burdett, KS in Pawnee County. From 1981-1986 she was a member of Pawnee County Extension Council, serving as chairperson of the executive board from 1984-1986; she also represented southwest Kansas on the State Extension Advisory Council, serving from 1984-1988. In 1989 she received recognition for her service on behalf of the Pawnee County Extension Council.
Carolyn was a past member of Burdett United Methodist Church, serving as their business manager for 26 years and participated in the annual quilt tying mission day. She also served as a Dodge City District UMW Officer. Carolyn served on the Executive Council at Burdett Senior Center and was a Pawnee County 4-H Leader.
In 2016, Carolyn and Lee moved to Great Bend, KS. Carolyn then transferred membership to Trinity United Methodist Church. She was involved in Trinity United Methodist Women, and Lydia’s Circle.
Survivors include: a son, Richard Andrew Musil, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Connor and Briezlyn Musil, Great Bend and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lee.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg presiding. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
