Gerald “Jake” Tomlinson

Gerald “Jake” Tomlinson passed away on Feb. 24, 2024, at Hays Medical Center. Jake was born to Darlene (Boese) and Cecil Tomlinson on Jan. 22, 1953, in Hoisington. He was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal. He graduated from McCracken High School in 1971. He joined the Army in 1971, serving at Fort Riley, until his discharge in 1974.

On Aug. 19, 1972, Jake married the love of his life Kathleen Herrman at the St. Joseph Church in Liebenthal. They were blessed with a happy healthy son, Shiloh, on July 23, 1973. They made their home in Ness City where Jake began his career with Cheyenne Oil. They eventually moved to McCracken and later to La Crosse. After retiring from the oilfield, Jake worked as the maintenance man at the Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. He had a great work ethic and always gave his all when working.

Jake never met a person he didn’t like, and his sense of humor was one of his greatest attributes. His passions were working on vehicles and boating at Cedar Bluff with his family and friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Tomlinson; his mother, Darlene Hunt; his mother and father-in-law, Wilbert and Dolores Herrman; and brothers-in-law, Larry Gates and Doug Seachris.

Jake will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy; his son, Shiloh; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; the two “daughters” that came and never left, Debra Zogleman and Vicki Gerstner; siblings: Tom (Shirley) Tomlinson, Marcketta Gates, Beverly Seachris, Cindy (Doug Schmidt) Ash, and Mike Riedel; sister-in-law, Janett (Ben) Rogers; brother-in-law, Darryl (Sherri) Herrman; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at St. Joseph Church in Liebenthal. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Saint Joseph Cemetery.
