Agnes “Aggie” (Stoecklein) Stueve, 85, passed away April 30, 2023, at Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove, TX. She was born on May 20, 1937, in Hoisington, KS, to Alexander Christopher and Anna Margaret (Wolf) Stoecklein. Her brothers would call her the cheerleader of their family as she was always cheerful and optimistic.
Aggie was a lifetime resident of Great Bend and graduated From GBHS in 1955.
After graduation she began work at Security State Bank as a teller and worked part-time at Scotty’s Grocery store on the corner of Adams and 10th.
It was there that a young man working for Halliburton would come in for his groceries, hang out reading magazines, and wait for moments between customers to visit with her. After many rejections, she finally said “yes” and on September 13, 1958, she married Kenneth B. Stueve at St. Patrick’s Church in Great Bend. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last September.
Ken and Aggie raised three children, Susan, Vincent, and Steven. Home and family were the center of Aggie’s life. Her children remember her singing songs, playing basketball, making toys and doll clothes, playing cards and games, and teaching them to skate and ride bikes.
After her children started grade school, she returned to Security State Bank and worked in the loan department with Gail Lupton and Tom Curtis until 1989. Upon retirement she worked at the Great Bend Senior Center and Great Bend Printing.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and her faith in God always sustained her.
She loved to cook and bake, and her family loved the goodies that came from her kitchen. Canning was a talent she perfected, and she was known for making especially good dill and bread and butter pickles.
She enjoyed bowling and was a 200 plus bowler participating in league bowling until the early 1970s.
Aggie stood on the shoulders of highly motivated, positive, hardworking parents and grandparents. She was the culmination of spirits that desired better lives for their children and children’s children, a trait she passed on to her children. There is no doubt she came from early Kansas pioneers who possessed a deep desire for the freedoms of this country and a deep faith in God.
Survivors include daughter Susan Tyson (Kim) of Copperas Cove, TX; and son Vincent Stueve (Holly) of Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren, Dustain Stueve (Susan), Sallie Stueve, Trista Taylor (Ty), Augustus Stueve (Kristen), Matthew Leach, Nicholas Tyson (Alexis), Rose Stueve and Wyatt Stueve; five great-grandchildren, Graede, Brooks and Regaen Taylor, Peyton Wells and Kami Stueve; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Rowland (Robert), and sister-in-law Karen Kuzelka (Mike).
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her parents; brothers Virgil, Eddie, Lester, Ted, and Jerry; sisters Florine Stoecklein, Virginia Shawn, Theresa Mortimer, and Esther Staub; granddaughter Tacoa Lee Stueve; and son Steven Stueve.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor SharonCuster presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.
Aggie truly enjoyed working at the Great Bend Senior Center, and until the day she passed thought she was still working there serving the senior citizens in Great Bend.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Great Bend Senior Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
