Colleen L. (Hoover) Clark, born on December 19, 1940, in Haigler, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2024, in Garden City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Wade R. and Bertha (Powell) Hoover.
Colleen's life was one of profound impact and unwavering dedication. Her journey was marked by moments of triumph and resilience, shaping her into the remarkable woman she was known to be. She touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In 1983, Colleen married Donald Clark, in Nebraska. Together, they embarked on a journey that led them to Kansas in 1984. Tragically, Donald passed away in 1985, leaving Colleen to navigate life's challenges with unwavering strength and grace.
Colleen's thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in drug and rehabilitation counseling. She attended school in various places including Grand island, Nebraska, Topeka, Kansas, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Latina Hills, California, Wichita, Kansas, Dodge City, Kansas, and Garden City, Kansas. She was always integrating new information and ideas into her practice, honing her skills and becoming instrumental in the opening of several rehabilitation facilities. Her reputation and impact extended far beyond the borders of Kansas, garnering recognition even on the West Coast. Colleen's dedication to her profession was unrivaled, and she co-founded Unlimited Beginnings in Dodge City and established her own practice, Choices & Beginnings, in Garden City. Her commitment to empowering and assisting those in need was a testament to her compassionate heart.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Colleen found joy in various hobbies and activities. She had a passion for playing the organ, a talent she possessed despite not being able to read music. Her ability to create beautiful melodies by ear was a testament to her innate musical gift. Colleen also found solace in gardening and surrounded herself with the beauty of flowers. Her love for nature was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned her home. Additionally, she enjoyed attending singles dances in Dodge City, where she found camaraderie and joy in the company of others.
Colleen was characterized by her energetic spirit, go-getter personality, and unwavering strength. Her resilience in the face of adversity was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She faced life's challenges with a determined resolve, never backing down from obstacles that came her way.
Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Clark, as well as 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Despite the profound loss she endured, Colleen's spirit remained unbroken, and her legacy continued through those she held dear. She is survived by her sons, David Butler of Garden City, Kansas, Keith Butler and Barb Evans of Russell, Kansas, and Brad Butler of Pierceville, Kansas, step-son Lance Clark and family of Amarillo, Texas. Colleen's love extended to her cherished grandchildren, Cody and Colleen Butler and Amanda and Pablo Palma, and her 4 great-grandchildren Clair, Leo, Parker, and Logon.
A private family service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Colleen Clark Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
