September 11, 1958 - May 25, 2023

James “Jim” E. Kelley passed away on May 25th, 2023, at his home in Grainfield, KS at the age of 64. Jim was born on September 11th, 1958, in Colby, Kansas to the late Emmett and Elsie (Howe) Kelley.

He grew up in the Colby and Hoxie area and attended school in both the Hoxie and Logan school districts, graduating from Logan High School in 1976. He attended Goodland Vo-Tech after graduation.

Jim was married twice and was blessed with three children.

He held many jobs throughout his life: working at Goetz Feedlot, then under Dale Goetz. He worked construction for several years with Jake Wilderman and Darrell Zerr. Later in life he found employment with Paul and Tyler Breeden as a farm worker.

Jim enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake with friends. For entertainment, Jim enjoyed watching professional wrestling and had a large collection of movies. He liked to BBQ and spend time with his family and his girlfriend Evy Wilson.

Jim is survived by his daughters Amanda Greene of Topeka, Kansas, and Amber Hatch (Kyle) of Grainfield, Kansas; brothers Ron Kelley (Mary) of Ness City, Kansas, Don Kelley, and Arley Kelley of Natoma, Kansas; and grandchildren Kaylie and Kellie Greene, and Natasha, Grant, and Connor Barnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Elsie Kelley; son Kenny Greene; and sisters Arlene Oldham and Peggy Larson.

A visitation and funeral service is planned for Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, rural Sheridan County. The visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. and the service will start at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in the Mount Pleasant Community Cemetery.
