Edmund Anton Zimmerman, 94, of Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on March 4, 2024. Ed was born on November 16, 1929, to Theodore and Rosalie (Heier) Zimmerman in rural Gove County, KS. The doctor was unable to make it to the farm, so Ed was delivered by his own father. He was the seventh of fourteen children.
Ed graduated from Park High School in Park, KS in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army Fifth Armored Division Battery D 47th F. A. Battalion during the Korean War.
Ed married Delores (Waldman) Zimmerman on April 10, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, KS. To this union, four children were born.
As a youth, Ed helped out on the family farm. His career in agriculture continued throughout his life. He was the grain elevator superintendent at Intermountain Grain Elevator in Denver, CO and at Garvey Elevator in Hastings. Ed also worked at Juniata Co-op in Juniata, NE and for Gerald “Charlie” Frerichs on his farm in Adams County, NE.
Ed enjoyed his family and friends, playing cards, visiting and singing.
He was a champion league bowler and an assistant baseball coach for one of Matthew’s teams. Ed always planted a large garden and shared the bounty with family, friends and charities. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church since 1968.
Ed is survived by his children, Lynette (Mark) Moul and Sheila Valentine, Hastings; Cary (Kathy) Zimmerman, Casper, WY; LeAnn Zimmerman, O’Neill, NE; grandsons, Nicholas (Shelly) Zimmerman, Matthew Valentine, Brandon (Abbey) Zimmerman, Cody (Laura) Valentine, Zacary Zimmerman; great grandchildren, Vincent and Declan Valentine; Connor, Luke, Evan, Caleb, Sadie, Sophie and Baby Zimmerman; sisters, Johanna Dreher, Celestine Burgardt, Albina Moore, Loretta Waldman, Rowena (Clyde)Thomas; sisters-in-law, Diane Zimmerman, Irene Bechard; brothers-in-law, Bill Knoll, Pius Waldman, Delbert (Ethel) Waldman, Linus (Antonia) Waldman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Joseph (Martina), Fabian (Opal), and Fidelis Zimmerman; sisters, Katherine (Clarence) Younger, Theresa (Steve) Haffner, Mary (Gerald) Racette, Alberta Knoll, Emma Zimmerman, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Dreher, Gene Moore, Robert Waldman; sister-in-law Lorena (Don) Burgardt and great grandchild Erica Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15th 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with rosary and prayer service at 7 pm Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, Kansas. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, March 16th at 10:00 am Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, KS. Military rites by American Legion George M. Scott Post 301 of Grainfield, KS.

A memorial Mass for Ed and Dee will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 2:30 pm St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings. Rosary at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family afterwards.
