Maurilyn Denise "Deni" McConnell accepted her Divine invitation to a celestial home on August 5, 2022, in Oklahoma City.
Born in 1945, Deni graduated from Hays High School in 1963 where she
was active playing trumpet in multiple bands and orchestras, and from
FHKSC in 1968. She taught high school for a year in Herrington, KS and
was a legal secretary for several law firms after moving to Oklahoma.
She was assistant editor of Sister Advocate newspaper for three years
and in 1983, published her poem “Avengin’ Annie” in Patriarchy Malarkey
while working to pass the ERA. She also helped produce Olivia Womens
Music concerts and donated time and energy to Herland Bookstore in OKC.
She was a lifelong feminist, rock hound, astronomy and animal lover.
She
is survived by best friend and tireless caregiver, Sandra Jones,
sister Vicki P. McConnell (Denver), and longtime friends Teresa Madden
and Carol Miller of OKC.
Previously deceased are her parents Wayne J. and Dorothy R. Mitchell McConnell, both of Hays, Ks.
