Thelma May Klotz, 93, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Buhler Sunshine Home, Buhler.
She was born November 27, 1930, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Elmer and Verna Chase Hoefer. A resident of Hutchinson growing up, she married John B. Solida in 1948. Three sons were born of this marriage: John Jr., Ron, and Rick. They moved to California and lived there for over ten years and then in the 1960’s moved to Phillipsburg. John and Thelma divorced. She later married Robert Klotz in 1980 in Hays. During their life in Hays, they did daycare in their home. She kept in contact with many of her daycare children along with three other children she helped care for in California, Sandra, Janis, and Kenny, who referred to her as Mom2.
Robert passed away in November of 2011. Just over a month ago, she moved to Buhler Sunshine Home to be with her sister, Midge.
Survivors include a son, Rick (Janice) Solida, Phillipsburg; 3 sisters, Midge Sinclair Sidebottom, Buhler, Wanda Als, Tenn, and Judy Cole, Wichita; a brother, Fred (Betty) Hoefer, Hutchinson; 7 grandchildren, John B. (Shelbi) Solida, Chris Solida, Dylan Solida, Kelly (Bob) Abernathy, Jeff (Stacy) Solida, Ricky (Sheila) Solida, and Michael (Amber) Solida; 18 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and very close friends and caregivers Don, Marlene, Gloria, Van, Michelle, and others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; two sons, John Solida, Jr., and Ron Solida; and siblings, Betty Lou, Ruth, and Zorby.
Per Thelma’s wishes, cremation is planned. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
