Clement Roland “Clem” Mumm, 85, of Colby, KS died Thursday, January 12,
2023, at Citizens Medical Center. Clem was born July 13, 1937, the 13th
child to Gottfried “Fred” and Sarah “Sadie” (McDonald) Mumm on the
family farm in rural Sheridan County, KS. He attended country school
until 6th grade and then was a student at Selden Grade School. He
Graduated from Selden Rural High School in 1957.
Clem was a Farmer and Stockman with his brothers. He enjoyed the many aspects of farming. He retired from farming in 2005.
He was as united in the Sacrament of Marriage to Patricia “Pat” Van Pelt
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby on July 26, 2002. The couple
made their home in Colby.
Clem was a kind, gentle, quiet and humble man. He loved people and being
around others at all kinds of different gatherings. He loved to visit
and had that “hard to move those Mumm’s Family trait” when visiting. He
very much enjoyed Pat’s family and gatherings with them. He liked yard
work, watering the flowers and feeding the birds. He really enjoyed his
dogs and his cat that he cared for and referred to as “his kids”. He
liked going to coffee with his friends and volunteered for a time at
Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby at their Farmer’s Café.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby. He was very
sincere and devoted to his Catholic Faith and receiving the Sacraments.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Hubert, Frederick
“Fritz," Sylvester Paul, Gottfried and Charles “Bud” Mumm and sisters,
Anogene Rogers, Josephine Douglass, Eleanor “Norie” Rogers, Alberta
Ritter, Clara Newton and Juliann Mumm.
Clem is survived by his wife, Pat of the home; brother, Kenneth “Kenny”
Mumm of Selden; sisters, Margaret Roy of Atwood, Dolores Raile of Hoxie
and Judy (Gordon) Smith of Greeley, CO; sisters-in-law, Gail Mumm of
Selden and Vicky Mumm of Atwood; step daughters, Jeannie (Larry) Karre
of Cozad, NE, Nikki (Richard) Rowlison of Jennings and Sharon (Gus)
Hickert of Morland; five step grandchilden and seven step great
grandchildren; along with many nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January
15, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m.
Monday, January 16, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby. Burial
will take place in the Selden Cemetery.
