Evelyn W. Barnett, 87, passed away on June 27, 2023, in at Homestead Assisted Living in Wellington, Kansas. Evelyn was born on November 27, 1935, on a farm in Thomas County, Kansas south of Colby, to Curtis E.L. and Edna M. (Stickel) Walters.

She attended schools in Levant, Kansas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She married Mirl E. Barnett on September 27, 1952, in Rexford, Kansas.

In addition to many years spent as a farm wife she served time as a bus driver and cook at Golden Plains High School. In her later years, she was employed at the Best Western Hotel in Colby, Kansas.

Survivors include one son, Troy Barnett and his wife Connie of Elkhart, Kansas; two daughters, Kandi Washburn and husband Fred of Hoxie, Kansas and Kris Hagans and husband Kirby of La Crosse, Kansas; one sister, Bonnie Kysar and husband Ken of Lakin, Kansas; four grandchildren, Steve Washburn and wife Amber of Gorham, Kansas, Shawna Martinez and husband Lolo of Hobbs, New Mexico, Amy Brillhart and husband Dusty of Elkhart, Kansas and Kade Hagans of La Crosse, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren,: Ashtyn Washburn, Easton Washburn, Danzy Martinez, Izabelle Martinez and Zander Martinez, Madyson Brillhart, Mason Brillhart, and Emmalym Brillhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mirl, brother Lester, grandson Jason Barnett and great-grandson Zalin Martinez.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Rexford Community Church in Rexford, Kansas. Burial in the Rexford Cemetery.
