Cesar Villarreal, a long time member of the Garden City community, passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on February 25, 1947, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Ysidro and Petra Villarreal.
Cesar grew up playing sports and graduated from Garden City High School in 1965. He grew up in the family owned business of floor covering and after a short stint in the liquor retail business, he went back to floor covering and went on to become the owner of a respected floorcovering company. His work ethic was a testament to his value of hard work. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his country, as he honorably served as a Reservist. He entered the United States Army Reserves in January 1967 and was released on February 9, 1974. He trained at Fort Lewis Washington, Fort Ord, California, Fort Leonard, Missouri and Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was proud to have served and following in the steps of his father and 2 uncles. He relished his trips to Dairy Queen for dilly bars, and partaking of a cold beverage on a hot day. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, he never missed a game, and his enthusiasm for his team was infectious. Above all, Cesar was a devoted grandfather who gave great advice and was always ready with a helping hand or a word of encouragement. He remained positive even when his health declined. He knew the meaning of a good hug.
He is survived by his children, Sean (son) and Chandrey Villarreal, Celyn Hurtado (daughter) and Trevor Martin; Sister- Sophia Villarreal Gunter. His legacy continues through his Grandchildren-Alexis Leon and Cade Roth, Laela Villarreal and Colby Kells, Athen Villarreal, Stella Villarreal, AJ and Roxana Hurtado, Hillary and Matthew Gregory, Isaiah Ramos, Kevin and Christina Newell, Darin Jr and Katlyn Newell, Tre Coyne, Christian Coyne; Great-Grandchildren-Lola Leon, Marlee Hurtado, Isabel "Izzie" Hurtado, Paisley Gregory, Elijah Gregory, Christopher Newell, Sonya Newell, Jacob Newell, Kathrynne Newell, Maddie Coyne and RaeAnne Coyne; & longtime business partner-Fernando Ojeda.
He was preceded in death by his Parents and Brothers-Hilary Villarreal and JR Villarreal.
Visitation will be held Friday June 14, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home. A Liturgical Service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday June 15, 2024 also at Garnand Funeral Home with Rev. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Military Honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard and the Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard.
