Fedailia “Phil” M. Johnston, 85, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City.
She was born May 9, 1937, at Quinter, Kansas, the daughter of Anton Joseph and Christina (Kuntz) Dreher. She graduated from Quinter High School and Cosmetology School in Salina. She worked as a hairdresser in Pratt until her marriage to Billy “B.D.” Johnston at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas, on May 20, 1957. She later worked at Dodge City High School, Hardee’s and the Kansas Soldier’s Home at Fort Dodge as a cook until retiring in July 1999.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Altar Society both in Dodge City. She was a devout woman of faith and a prayer warrior.
Survivors include: a son, Robert “Bob” Johnston and wife Cherise, Dodge City; 2 daughters, Janet Scheffe and husband Lawrence “Lonnie”, Kansas City, Missouri and Deanna Johnston, Dodge City; 2 brothers, Larry Dreher and wife Nita, Parkville, Missouri and Tim Dreher and wife Charlene, WaKeeney, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Bryce Johnston and wife Jessica, Tyson Johnston, Sarah Driskell and husband Joel, Steven Scheffe and Shawn Scheffe and wife Mikaila; 6 great grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy, on February 16, 2001, a son, William “Willie” Johnston, a brother, Richard Dreher, a niece, Christina Dreher and an angel baby Mary.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 901 Central Ave., Dodge City, with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will be at 2:30 pm Monday in the Coats Cemetery, Coats, Kansas. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
