Duane Eugene Sell, 71, of Long Island, KS passed away May 8, 2023 at the CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. He was born December 17, 1951 in Norton, KS to William and Della (Romjue) Sell.
Duane grew up on the family farm just north of Long Island, one mile into Nebraska. He was a 1969 graduate of Northern Valley High School.
After school, he worked for Almena Agri Services until 1977 at which time he began his pursuit of his lifelong dream of farming. Farming wasn’t just a job to him; it was his passion, and he took a lot of pride in raising his crops. Some of his favorite times on the farm were irrigating in the evenings and taking drives to simply check on the crops.
Duane married Janet Cozad on July 31, 1971 in Calvert, KS. If he wasn’t out working on the farm, you would likely find him caring for his yard which was a sanctuary for him and Janet.
You could always find Duane with a thermos of coffee, his chore gloves, and either a ball cap or stocking hat, depending on the time of year. His days started and ended enjoying a few moments sitting on the back deck with Janet. But what he valued most in his life were all the moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet Sell; sons Shane Sell and Andrew Keith, both of Almena; daughter Angela (Stuart) Porter of Beloit, KS; brother Kenneth (Kathy) Sell of Kearney, NE; sister Sharon (Chuck) Powers of Arapahoe, NE; grandchildren Brianna Sammons, Brendon Sammons, Caleb Keith, Jacob Porter, and Abigail Porter; and many beloved family members and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Oliver Sell, and sister Shirley Sell.
