Herman J. Leiker, 85, Munjor, died Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 16, 1939 on the family farm in south of Munjor, Kansas the son of Romuald and Genevieve (Urban) Leiker. When Herman was three hours old his mother died from complications of childbirth. Herman was raised by his uncle and aunt, Frank and Katie (Leiker) Pfannenstiel. He attended Munjor Grade School, graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1957, and he served two years in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963. On October 22, 1966, he was united in marriage to Rosie Walter in Catharine, and they celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage. Herman was a cat skinner and pumper for Dreiling Oil in Victoria for 42 years, retiring in 2012. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor and the St. Francis Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11492. He enjoyed working in his garage, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and evening walks to the cemetery with Rosie where they prayed the rosary.
Survivors include his wife Rosie of Munjor, two sons, Francis Leiker and Susan Case of Hays, and Fabian Leiker and wife Linda of Mount Pleasant, SC, three daughters, Kathleen Huser and husband Kevin of Victoria, Kayleen Knoll and husband Shawn of Omaha, NE, and Kolleen Dome and husband Aaron of Hays, a daughter-in-law, Amy Leiker of Hays, three sisters, Janet Pfannenstiel of Pueblo, CO, Agnese Moore of Gold Canyon, AZ, and Zita Riedel of Kansas City, a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Warren of Wichita, a brother-in-law, Dick Moore of Great Bend, 16 grandchildren, Kasandra Bliss and husband Taylor, Kirk and Kyle Huser, Joshua Case, Ashli, Vivian, Kaitlin, Haili, Jessica, and Jake Leiker, Brianna Leiker and fiancé Kaden Scheel, Morgan Slipke and husband Easton, Thomas Leiker, Alex Knoll, Valerie and Benjamin Dome, five great grandchildren, Nash, Linkoln, Wyatt, Natalie, and Jordie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Romuald and Genevieve Leiker and Frank and Katie Pfannenstiel, his son, Farron Lee Leiker, three brothers, Ralph Leiker and wife Leona, Bill Leiker and wife Irma, and Jim Leiker, two sisters, Henrietta Robben and husband Philip, and Georgina Wulff and husband Norbert, and infant brother and two infant sisters, and a brother-in-law, Celly Riedel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:30 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested for masses.
