Devon Joseph Mick departed this world tragically too soon, at the young age of 25, on Friday, September 2, 2022, in Plainville, Kansas. He was born to Kelly (Boller) Hrabe and Damien Mick on March 21, 1997, in Hays, Kansas. Devon was engaged to Jailen Plummer; the couple was blessed with two sons: Bentley and Staley.
Devon was raised in Plainville and he graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 2015. Shortly after high school he went to work in the oil field. He started as a floor hand and later moved to a rig operator for Chito’s Well Service. Devon met the love of his life, and the mother to his children, Jailen, in 2016. His wild nature kept his fiancé, friends, and family on their toes with his love of big burn outs and the need for speed (although that sometimes got him in trouble). His lead foot and love of American muscle would inevitably lead him to do it repeatedly.
Devon was a family-centered man; he adored his sons, shopping for RC cars or hot wheels with his brother and tinkering on car projects with his uncle and best friend, Jameson. He was always surrounded by family or friends, and it was always accompanied by good music, good food, and a lot of laughs. His free spirit was felt by those who knew him. He found God and the beauty in His creation by doing things he enjoyed like fishing, cruising around, and spending time with the people he loved the most.
Although Devon will be sorely missed by all who knew him, his love and memories will be with us forever. May we surround the family with love and cherish Devon’s memories by living like tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, put our foot through the floor every now and then and leave burnouts on the hearts of the people we encounter. And may we be encouraged to cherish the ties that bind, be quick to forgive and slow to anger, and live our lives to the very fullest.
Devon leaves behind his parents, Kelly (Jay) Hrabe of Plainville and Damien (Debralee) Mick of Bonner Springs, KS; fiancé, Jailen Plummer of Plainville; sons, Bentley and Staley Mick of Plainville; brother, Tucker Mick of Bonner Springs, KS; grandparents, Paula and Jim Mick of Plainville and Jack Boller of Plainville; aunt and uncles, Wendy (Matthew) Houser of Battleground, WA, Ashley LaDuke of Plainville, and Jameson Mick of Plainville; cousins and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Gage Mick and grandmother, Suzanne “Susie” Boller.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 8 PM. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Devon Mick Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St., Plainville, KS 67663.
