Ruth Whittington, age 89, of Elkhart, Kansas, died March 17, 2024, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson. She was born August 11, 1934, in Shamrock, Texas, the daughter of Reverend A. E. and Meda W. (Hall) Whittington.
After graduating from Johnson High School, Ruth lived the majority of her life in California. She was very involved in her church activities and often played the piano for services. She had a love for music, serving people, and God most of all. She was the owner / operator of Armstrong Trucking, worked in the hospital laboratory in Johnson and Elkhart, Kansas, Springfield, Colorado, and Sherman, Texas, and was also a Radiologic Technician.
Ruth is survived by her son, Jerry Slates of Fort Jones, California; daughter, Cheryl Morisse and husband, Lindsey, of Basehor, Kansas; sisters, Vivian Fisher and husband, Neil, of Johnson, and Glenda McVey and husband, Larry, of Forgan, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren on the way; and many other family members and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend A.E. and Meda Whittington; brothers, Erman Glenn Whittington and Enid Whittington; and one grandson, Levi Morisse.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson with Reverend Roberto Ibarra officiating. Casual dress attire is encouraged. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas.
