Joyce Marie (Jacob) Gallagher passed away on July 24, 2023, at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, KS.

Joyce was born on September 6, 1930 to Loyal and Elsie Jacob in Studley, KS, the oldest of five children. S

he graduated from Hoxie Grade School and attended HHS for a short time before entering the work force. Joyce worked as a waitress, telephone operator, nurse aide and the school cafeteria in the later years.

Joyce married Frank Gallagher on November 28, 1956 in Hoxie, KS. They were blessed with six children, Stan, Maryln, David, Leanna, Ladonna, and Mary.

Joyce was a phenomenal wife and mother. Her family always came first, she loved being a homemaker. Cooking, gardening, sewing, or crafting as well as playing cards and Fast Track. Her home was always ready for guests, even with six kids underfoot. She was an active member of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and Sodality.

Joyce loved to travel with Frank and friends. They started out in an old school bus with two baby beds and diapers on the line. They ended their travels with a beautiful 5th wheel 55 years later. They traveled all 50 states, some more than once, as well as Alaska and Canada. For 33 years they spent their winters in the south and summers in Colorado.

Joyce’s true love was Frank and her six children, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was always ready for her kids to come home to visit or go visit her kids in the many places they lived. She loved to babysit her grandchildren when she was home as well as her grandpets. Her grandchildren all loved Grandma! Joyce always welcomes friends and family into her home with open arms.

She was a kind person who loved the Lord and her family and friends. Joyce had a very kind, gentle soul.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Frank of the home; brothers, Dale Jacob of Deerfield, KS and Loyal Jacob, Jr. of Middlebora, MA; brother-in-law, Larry Friedel of Elk City, OK; daughters, Leanna (Tom) Sloan of Hoxie, Ladonna (Mark) Joslyn of Hoxie, and Mary (Alex) Dumler of Hoxie; daughters-in-law, Rosie Gallagher of Holcomb, KS and Bea Albers of Oakley, KS; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyal and Elsie (Cressler) Jacob; brother, Clare Jacob; sister, Charlene Friedel; sisters-in-law, Betty and Ann Jacob; sons, Stanley and David Gallagher; daughter, Maryln Rogers and great-grandsons, Dustin Rietcheck and Dalton Garrison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie. Visitation will be Thursday, 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Hoxie with family receiving guests from 6-7 p.m. Vigil service will start at 7 p.m.
