Thomas Alvin Smith, 74, died August 25 2022, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born April 25, 1948, in Garden City, the son of Clyde and Ester (Goodale) Smith.
Tom grew up in Kalvesta and graduated high school from Cimarron in 1966. After high school Tom entered into the United States Army on April 10, 1968, in Denver, Colorado. He was honorably discharged January 23, 1970. Tom met Pam in 1971 and they were married on March 3, 1973. After his enlistment Tom started farming with his dad up until his dad retired at which point Tom bought the farm and farmed until his retirement in 2010. After retiring from farming Pam and Tom lived on the farm until they moved to town in 2015.
In 1984, Tom adopted Charlotte, Christine, and Chelly. Tom and Pam had Lori in 1973. In 2014, Tom became a Great Grandpa and since then there has been 11 others born or married into the family that he loved unconditionally. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Ester (Goodale) Smith, his sisters Helen Shriver and Mary Hoskinson; and son-in-law, De Rosales.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pam (Brown) Smith of the home; four daughters, Charlotte (Larry) Neuschafer, Christina (Steven) Bock, Chelly Rosales, and Lori (Kerry) Herkelman all of Cimarron; grandchildren, Ashley (Jacob Ledford), Dylan, Annie, and Joshua Neuschafer; Klayton (Kourtney) Kory, Kody (Kami) Bock; Marika Rosales; Katie (Mike Thompson), Kourtney (Bo Walker), Allyssa, Morgan Herkelman. and Great Grandchildren Austin, Ava, and Mason Ledford; Jamie and Tanner Bock, Kira Dishmon, Gaby Mason, and Keela Haslouer; Easton, Arizona, and baby Thompson; Taylinn, Wesley, and baby Walker; and Adaline Mendoza. Tom is also survived by a brother, John (Mary) Smith of Cimarron; sisters, Peggy Toland and Nancy Davis both of Lawrence; and brother-in-law, Chuck Hoskinson of Minneola.
Funeral service will be held at the Cimarron United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Keating presiding. Burial will follow at the Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron with military honors by American Legion District 8 Honor Guard. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Cimarron on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 1:00 to 8:00 PM.
