Raymond C. Gallegos

Raymond C. Gallegos, 72, Galatia, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at his home.

Raymond was born September 8, 1951, in El Paso, Texas.  He was a resident of Galatia, Kansas, for 20+ years, moving from Hays, Kansas.  

On December 31, 1994, he married the love of his life, Diana Jean Engel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.  She preceded him in death May 16, 2021.

He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas, a life member of VFW Post 10102, Burlington, Iowa, and a member of UA Local 669 - Sprinkler Fitters.

He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.

Raymond’s job as a sprinkler fitter allowed him and his wife, Diana, to travel the United States extensively, something they both loved doing.  Once they moved to Galatia, Kansas, Raymond and Diana owned and operated the Backroads Bar & Grill, Galatia, Kansas, for many years.  Raymond enjoyed fishing as a past time.

Survivors include:  one daughter, Saska (Greg) Pfannenstiel, Hays, Kansas; one  son, Joe (Helen) Lewis, Salina, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jesse (Audrey) Lewis, Danielle Pfannenstiel, and Dalton, Joey and Wyatt Lewis; five great grandchildren, Braden, Keaton, Jaxon, and Addilyn Lewis, and Atlas Lewis; one sister, Rose Gallegos, California; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one son, Michael Lewis.

Church visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2023, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Friday, December 29, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka, officiating.  Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas.
