Edna Mary Queen, of Lakewood, CA and formerly of Grainfield, KS, passed away on January 22, 2024, at the Lakewood Regional Medical Center in Lakewood, CA, at the age of 84. She was born on July 3, 1939, to Herbert A. and Lillian (Kleymann) Queen in Colby, KS.
Edna grew up in Colby, Levant, and Grainfield, graduating from Grainfield Rural High School in 1958. After high school she took computer classes at Cerritos College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Johnson Controls and then for Los Angeles County Office of Education for 30+ years.
Edna loved anything cat related and she supported “Big Cat Rescue”, and the “Grainfield Opera House”. She loved going to the LA County Fair and creating her signature hat look. She enjoyed reading mystery/sci-fi/fantasy books, Sudoku puzzles, and Saturday morning matinee movies with her son.
She is survived by her son, Robert Queen of Lakewood, CA; siblings, Herby F. Queen of Grainfield, Henry (Wilma) Queen of Bremerton, WA, Sylvia (Tom) Tanner of Independence, MO, and Leonard (Donna) Queen of Salina, KS; David May of Tucson, AZ, Rose Marie (May) Nicholson of Cassville, MO and Karen May of Tonganoxie KS, and many cousins, nephews & nieces.
Preceding Edna in death are her parents Herbert & Lillian; Sister Freda Hunt; little brother John Queen; step mother Evelyn May; step-siblings Gerhard “Gary” May, Marilyn May, and Nicky May.
A Celebration of Edna’s life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie, Kansas. Interment will follow in Grainfield Township Cemetery in Grainfield, KS. Family and close friends will attend a private reception in the Opera House.
