Jody Hartwell, 92 years old, of Colby, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her home on June 17th, 2024. Jody was born in Toole County, Montana on November 25th, 1931, to Ethel and Joseph Skryja. Jody was born in a blizzard on the family's homestead in Montana.
Jody married Red Hartwell in 1966 in Shelby, Montana. Together they joyously raised Penny (Keegan) and Jeff Hartwell. Red and Jody made their homes in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota while Red worked in the oil field. After retirement they both made their home in Colby. There they helped their son Jeff Hartwell with his racing career and helped raise their grandchildren. Jody was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ethel Skryja: her husband Red Hartwell; sisters, Jean Hunt and Freda Hartwell; brothers, Dave Pederson and Richard Skryja; son Jeff Hartwell, and granddaughter Kayla Hartwell.
She is survived by her daughter Penny Keegan (Kevin Keegan), of North Dakota; grandchildren, Cy Crighton, Chase Hartwell and Jordan (Hartwell) Sweet; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
