Edwin Joseph Richmeier, age 92, of St. Peter, KS, passed away on November 12, 2024, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, KS. He was born on February 6, 1932, in St. Peter, KS, to Joseph A. Richmeier and Elizabeth (Dinkel) Richmeier. Edwin grew up on a farm south of St. Peter and attended school through the 8th grade. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953, serving two years on active duty before transferring to the Army Reserve to complete a total of eight years of service.
Edwin worked as a mechanic in Ellis, KS, for several years. February 6, 1956, he married the love of his life, Agnes Flax, at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised six children: Judith, Shirley, Catherine, Jeanette, Kenneth, and James.
In 1970, Edwin moved his family to St. Peter to take over the family farm, calling it “a real good move.” He said, “Agnes and the children pitch right in with the farm work, and we are one happy family.” He worked as a mechanic on the side to make ends meet. Known for his hard work, Edwin dedicated long hours to cultivating the land and tending cattle. He reserved Sundays for church and watching his favorite sports teams on TV. He never turned down an opportunity to play cards or go hunting with friends and family. Edwin was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Christ the King Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
