Carolyn Rose Carlson, Emporia, Kansas, passed away on January 24, 2024. She was 90 years old.
Carolyn was born on May 22, 1933, in Dodge City, KS, the daughter of Carl and Josephine (Giessel) Carmichael. Carolyn graduated from Dodge City High School, and Dodge City Community College. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Emporia State University. Carolyn and Clayton met while attending ESU and married on June 25, 1955, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Emporia, KS.
Carolyn lived in Emporia, Columbus, Burlington, Victoria, Topeka and Council Grove before returning to Emporia. While living in these cities, she enjoyed substitute teaching, sewing, quilting, pottery classes, clothing alterations for clients, and teaching parish education. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Emporia, as well as a member of the Flint Hills Regional Quilt Guild.
Survivors include her sister Sandy (Sam) Fricke of Ontario, CA; children Cheryl (Ken) Blake of Salina, KS; Fr Curtis Carlson, OFMCap of Victoria, KS; Connie (Rick) Lance of Ft Worth, TX; Cynthia (Carl) Rogers of Burlington, KS; Craig Carlson of Emporia, KS; and grandchildren Brian (Rosie) Blake of Merriam, KS; Scott Blake of Fort Meyers, FL; Sara (Sean) Kempt of Ft Worth, TX; Nikita Rogers and Yasmin Rogers of Burlington, KS.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton and sister Lois Gritton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia, with burial at Union Cemetery in Osage City, KS. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 29, 2024 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
