Irene Emma Satchell, 98, of Russell, Kansas, and former Bunker Hill, Kansas, resident died on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Irene was born on July 15, 1925, in Bunker Hill, Kansas, the daughter of David J. and Anna (Steinle) Waymaster.  She grew up in Bunker Hill and attended Bunker Hill Schools and lived there and Russell, Kansas, most all her life. 

She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to E. Paul Satchell on April 28, 1950, in Russell, Kansas.  From this union Irene and Paul were blessed with five children-Lester, Becky, Roy, Eddie and Paul. 

She worked for many years at the Russell County Hospital as a cook.  She also work hard as a homemaker taking care of her family. 

She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and watching NFL Football and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed spending time and taking care of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Speicher of Russell, Kansas; daughter in-law Judy Satchell of Bunker Hill, Kansas, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul on January 29, 1969, sons Lester G. Satchell, Roy Satchell, Eddie Satchell, and Paul Satchell; brothers Fritz and Leroy Waymaster; sisters Pauline Ehrlich, Esther Propp, Lydia Steinle, Alma Michaelis and Elsie Cain.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas.  Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the mortuary. 

Memorials may be given to the V.F.W. Post #6240 or Bunker Hill Lyons Club and sent in care of the mortuary at 610 N. Maple St. Russell, KS 67665.
