Kenneth Paul 'Ken' Abendshien Jr.

Kenneth Paul “Ken” Abendshien Jr., age 75, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at his home. 

He was born January 1, 1948, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Kenneth and Elizabeth P. “Betty” (Pearson) Abendshien.  He married Linda (Scheib) on March 29, 1969, in Great Bend, Kansas.

He grew up in Turon, Kansas, and was a 1965 graduate of Fairfield High School.  He has lived in Hays since 1965, and was a 1970 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.  He worked 23 years for Hadley Hospital and Hays Medical Center in the computer information system department.  He then established and owned KPA and Associates, offering computer consulting for area hospitals for over 3 years.  After 28 years, Ken retired from Great Plains Health Alliance in June of 2022 as Chief Information Officer. He was a former Kiwanis member, and a Past President of the Hays Kiwanis Club.  He enjoyed traveling and taking family vacations each year, going on a number of cruises, and loves his “sun time” doing yard work and gardening.   

His survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; his children, Shari Meredith and husband, Michael, Hays, KS; Lisa Beebe and Jeff Siebert; Peculiar, MO; his grandchildren, Bradyn Meredith; Shayla Meredith; Jali“Hope” Cannon; Kenli Cannon; his brother, Dale Abendshien and wife, Patti, Hutchinson, KS; and his sister, Barbara Alpers and husband, Kevin, Hudson, KS.  Also, several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services are at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601 with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

  Visitation is from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday, and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, all at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials made payable to the organization: The Hays Kiwanis Club or Fort Hays State University Endowment for (Informatics Scholarships) in care of the mortuary.
