September 29, 1941 ~ May 5, 2023 (age 81)

Longtime Sherman county resident, Gary Louis Meyer, age 81, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023.  

Gary was born September 29, 1941 to Louis A. and Carol R. (Wilson) Meyer in Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

Gary grew up and went to school in Goodland. He attended Goodland High School with the class of 1959.  

He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.

On February 26, 1965, Gary was married to Jeanette Winter. They had two sons, Randy and Brad. They later divorced in 1984. On August 6, 1988, he married Shirley Joyce Smith in Goodland.

Gary worked at the Rock Island Railroad for several years, then became groundskeeper at Sugar Hills Country Club for over 30 years.

He enjoyed working in his yard and shop, traveling to Colorado to go gambling with his Colorado family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife Jeanette (Winter), sister Nancy Tacker; brothers Robert and Leo.

He is survived by his sons Randall Scott of Axtell, NE and Bradley Louis (Shelly) of Box Elder, SD; brother Don of Tuscon, AZ; sisters Vera (Mahlon) Saunders of Colorado Springs, CO, Lucille Melroy (Lloyd Peterson) of Yuma, CO, Connie (Steven) Cox of Colorado Springs, CO; and many more family and friends.  

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 1 p.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street, Goodland. Interment following the service at the Goodland Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. MT at the Funeral Home.  

Memorials may be designated to Gary Meyer Memorial Fund for the benefit of Alzheimer’s Foundation and may be left at the services or sent in care of Bateman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 278, Goodland, Kansas 67735.
