William (Bill) Henry Bixenman

 William (Bill) Henry Bixenman, 92, of Grinnell, passed away peacefully at his home in Grinnell on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023.

He was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Hays, to John and Mary (Ostmeyer) Bixenman. Bill attended Pleasant Ridge Country School north of Grinnell. On Aug. 18, 1956, he married Harriett Beedy. Bill was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell, KS. He was a member of the Angelus 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #2773.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Harriett; two daughters, Denise and Gerri; sisters, Doris Manhart and Stella Krannawitter; and brothers, Fred and Joe Bixenman.Survivors include his children, Pam Bechard (Richard), Shawnee,; Doug Bixenman (Lisa), Grinnell; Stephanie Ostmeyer (Terry), Grinnell; Roger Bixenman (Karla), Hays; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Japan. He was a lifelong farmer/rancher. They lived on the family farm until 1986 when they moved to Grinnell.

He had so much love for his family and relished every opportunity to attend his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved to watch the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs.

His most enjoyable hobby was playing cards with family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Grinnell with a Vigil at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell.

Burial with military honors by Grinnell VFW Post 2864 will take place in the church cemetery.
