Lola Marie (Nickles) Simon, of Plainville, passed away on Dec. 26, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of 95. She was born on Nov. 12, 1927, to Clarence and Gladys (Buffington) Nickles in Furley. She married James W. Simon on Aug. 7, 1948, in Wichita. They were blessed with three children: Mike, Jolene and Stanley.

Lola grew up on a farm near Valley Center and graduated from Valley Center High School in 1945. She was a cook at the Zurich Grade School for many years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a quilting guild which she was very proud of.

One of the greatest joys of Lola’s life was her family. She had special talents at quilting, gardening and cooking. She enjoyed tending to her big flower garden, fishing, camping, traveling, animals, nature and spending time with her grandchildren.

Lola has gone to be with the Lord and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will never be forgotten. The legacy of her love, laughter and joy will remain in our hearts forever.

Lola is survived by her children: Jolene McElroy (Rod) of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Stanley Simon (Maria) of Plainville; seven grandchildren: Chad (Aimee) Simon, Phil Simon, Mark (Christine) Simon, Andy Simon, Chris (Charlotte) McElroy, Casey (Amy) McElroy, and Karen McElroy; seven great-grandchildren: Sarena Allie, Gabby McElroy, Colt McElroy, Kansas McElroy, Sage Simon, Alexie Simon, and Carter Simon; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Gladys Nickles; husband James Simon; son, Mike (Marilyn) Simon; and brothers, Wayne and Roland Nickles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at  10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. A book signing will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville.
