Cheryl Kay (Werth) Thomas

Cheryl Kay (Werth) Thomas, 72, Hays, died Sunday, May 29, 2022, at HaysMed.

She was born July 14, 1949, in Hays, the youngest of twelve children of Frank and Lidwina (Tauscher) Werth.  Kay graduated from Schoenchen High School in 1967 and earned a degree from dental assistant school.  She worked as a dental assistant, and for 25 years was an aircraft machinist at Boeing Wichita.  She was a great cook, the life of the party, could make anyone laugh, and never judged people too harshly.  Her hobbies included bingo, gardening, gambling, playing games on her tablet, and dancing.

Survivors include a daughter: Stephanie Werth of Hays, a son: Todd Werth of Udall, three sisters: Laurine Werth of Hays, Mary Ann Rindt of Wichita, and Genavive “Jenny” Mendenhall of Wichita, four grandchildren: Lidia Werth, Zachary Werth and wife Jessica, Alysha Werth-Bieberle and husband Zell, and Tanner Diehl, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: General Sherman “Dude” Thomas, seven brothers: Ernest Werth, Glenn Richard Werth, Norman Steve Werth, Irvin Lee Werth, Robert F. Werth, Francis Werth, Jr., and Fred Werth, and a sister: Lillian Graf.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Fr. Joshua Werth officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Schoenchen.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time.  Memorials may be made payable to Stephanie Werth to help with funeral expenses.  Condolences and memories of Kay may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
