Barbara L. Hileman

Barbara L. Hileman, 76, died March 27, 2023, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.  She was born on March 20, 1947, in Montebello, California,  the daughter of Robert and Louise (Willis) Ricks.

Barbara spent her childhood in the Los Angeles area, graduating from Montebello High School in 1965.  On January 28, 1972, she married Wayne Hileman.  They celebrated 51 years of marriage.  The couple lived in California for a number of years before moving to Dodge City.  Barbara worked as an administrative assistant to the director of the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and at the Lamplighter Club. Barbara enjoyed spending time at the beach, sailing, riding Harley motorcycles, and she was an avid reader.  Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Wayne of Fort Dodge; daughter, Amanda Hestermann and husband Kyle of Scott City; son, Willis Hileman of Dodge City, a brother, Thomas Ricks of Dodge City; and seven grandchildren, Alexis, Angelica, Kaden, Graham, Anthony, Nelli, and Gracie.  Barbara is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 2:00PM with Pastor Kyle Evans presiding.  Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge.  There is no visitation as cremation has taken place.
