Larned – Betty Lou Twitchell, 93, passed away February 19, 2024 in Goddard, Kansas.
She was born May 25, 1930 in Larned, the daughter of Herbert R. and Lauretta Deighton Milhouse. A lifetime area resident, she was a music teacher in Pawnee Rock and Larned.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the church choir. Betty was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines in Larned, loved singing, enjoyed sewing and quilting. She graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music Degree and she later wrote a book, It’s Fun To Be A Rest, with her daughter, Sherryl.
On August 22, 1947 she married Robert Verne Twitchell at Ottawa, Kansas. He passed away December 24, 2008.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sherryl D. (Isaac) Lemuz, Larned and Rebecca A. (Gene) Hagerman, Goddard; six grandchildren, Anthony Lemuz, Paul Lemuz, Jack Lemuz, Monica Hoffman, Tyson Hagerman and Trent Hagerman and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Twitchell; two brothers, Wayne and Glenn Brown and a sister, Bernadyne Brannon.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Pastor Jarred Smith presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024 at the mortuary. Cremation has taken place and Inurnment will follow at a later date.
