Roxie Jean Tucker

Roxie Jean Tucker, died January 6, 2023, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Gray County.  She was born on December 29, 1952, at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado the daughter of William and Geneva (McGregor) Jones.

Roxie spent her childhood in Sharon Springs where she graduated from high school.  She went on to further her education at Garden City Community College. While in college, she was introduced to Steve Tucker.  They were united in marriage on June 1, 1974, at the Copeland Methodist Church.

They made their home in Copeland and welcomed a baby girl, Geneva, into the family. In recent years, Roxie and her daughter would talk every day and their conversation would always end with “Love ya!”  Roxie worked at the Channel 13 KAKE station with Bob Surber, handling all of the tasks at the news station.  When the station closed, Roxie went to work at the Montezuma State Bank as a teller and later as a loan secretary.  She also worked for Payroll Plus in Montezuma.  Between her full-time jobs, she enjoyed gardening and being involved on the farm. Helping Steve during harvest time and daily chores was her hobby.  She especially enjoyed taking good care of her chickens and cats.  Coffee time with friends was an important part of her life.  Her presence will be missed. 

Roxie is survived by a daughter, Geneva Tucker of Bremond, Texas; sister, Marietta Zimmerman and husband Don of Fort Collins, Colorado; a brother, David Jones of Sharon Springs, Kansas; sister-in-laws, Nancy Dotts of Montezuma, Donna Stark and Allie Tucker both of Copeland, Carla Shewey of Dodge City, Rita Ewoldt of Sioux Fall, South Dakota, and Sondra Jones of Grant, Nebraska.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; a brother, Andy Jones; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Tucker and Floyd Dotts.

Funeral service will be held at Copeland United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Doug Harris presiding. Burial will follow at the Copeland Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
