Delores Ann Schmeidler, age 85 of Hays, Kansas passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at the University of Kansas Hospital Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born on June 27, 1938, in Ellis, Kansas to Edward and Agnes (Stecklein) Honas. She married Leo F. Schmeidler on October 3, 1959, in Ellis, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1997.

Delores was an ARNP for over fifty years in the nursing and teaching health care industry. She was employed at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Stormont Vail Hospital, the Eddy Clinic, North Central Kansas Technical College, the Victoria Clinic, Good Samaritan Society of Hays, and Beverly Enterprise Nursing Homes.

She grew up in Ellis and was a 1956 graduate of Ellis High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University and two master’s degrees from Wichita State University. In Delores’s early years she worked for Delmas Haney as a legal stenographer, and then for Norbert Dreiling, attorney, as a legal secretary.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, oil painting, gardening, fishing, and going to the casinos. Her pride and joy was spoiling her grandchildren and her great-grandson.

Her survivors include her son, Brian Schmeidler, Victoria, KS; her daughter, Tamra “Tammy” Peters and husband, Daniel, Olathe, KS; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Schmeidler and husband, Ethan Peck, Fayetteville, AR; Sidney Schmeidler and fiancée, Dalton Kraus, Victoria, KS; Audra Schmeidler, Hays, KS; Leo N. Schmeidler, Victoria, KS; William Schmeidler, Victoria, KS; Leighton Peters and wife, Meghan, Olathe, KS; Dylan Peters, Cranford, NJ; Brooke Peters, Olathe, KS; great-grandson, Oliver Peters; and nine other deceased and living siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 13th and Ash, Hays, Kansas with Father John Schmeidler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, and from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

The family suggests memorials to the Cancer Center at the University of Kansas Health System made payable to: University of Kansas Health System in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
