David Wayne Riley, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on July 25, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 64. He was born on April 11, 1960, to Lloyd Riley and Ima Kaye (Sutherland) Shaffer in Wichita, Kansas.
Dave was a devoted family man and a true gearhead. After graduating from Russell High School, he attended trade school in Wichita and became an auto mechanic. He loved competing in dirt track racing, demolition derbies, and tinkering on various projects. After marrying the love of his life, Regina, he settled in Plainville and embraced his new role as stepfather. Together they expanded their family. He shared his love of motorized things with his children and included them in the preparation phase of demo derby cars, built a go-cart for the kids to putt around the family farm, and helped his father-in-law with farming chores. He enjoyed attending auctions and would often return home with fun finds that he got for a bargain. He loved music, pecan pie, and had a keen sense of humor. He served his community as a 4-H leader, assisted with religious education at Sacred Heart parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
David is survived by his loving wife, Regina (Schrandt), of 32 years, his children, Rochelle (Jason) Frederick of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Matthew (Lydia) Riley of Great Bend, Kansas, Mike Riley of Hays, Kansas, Mark (Brittany) Riley of Plainville; 5 step-children, K.C. (Gwen) Kraushaar of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Nicole Wise of Manhattan, Kansas, Lacy (Shawn) Graf of Abilene, Kansas, Mandy (Nathan) Jacobs of Smith Center, Kansas, Joe (Katelyn) Kraushaar of Hudson, Kansas; 24 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; and sister, Linda Murphy of Hays, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Riley, his parents, and his in-laws, grandson Phoenix Wise, and granddaughter Cecilia Graf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, Kansas. Visitation will be on Monday, July 29th, at 6:00 pm. A vigil will follow at 7:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
