Arlis G. Koerner, 77, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, at HaysMed surrounded by her family.
She was born July 13, 1945, in Norton, the daughter of Joseph and Leona (Allen) Kaspar. She graduated from Jennings High School, from NCK School of Nursing, and was an LPN at Hadley Hospital, Red Cross, Via Christi, and the Reed Center.
On July 13, 1968, she was united in marriage to James F. “Jim” Koerner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Her memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the American Legion Auxiliary, and S.O.S. Arlis was a house mother at a local fraternity, volunteered at the Arc Thrift Shop, sold Avon, and enjoyed shopping and finding garage sale bargains.
Traveling to casinos with her husband was a favorite pastime and she loved to visit with friends and family, tend to her garden and was an excellent cook.
Survivors include her husband Jim of the home, a son: Lance Koerner and wife Monique of Hays, a daughter: Dana Koerner of Hurley, Mo., a brother: Allan Kaspar and wife June of Nixa, Mo., three sisters: Carol Cook of Oklahoma City, Okla., Norma Hahn and husband Lou of Craig, Colo., and Joleene Younger and husband Frank of Victoria, two grandchildren: Gabriel Koerner and Michael Lowell, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Lois Hepner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.
Inurnment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
A Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., all on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Council of Ellis County.
