Brenda Kay Speer, 68, passed away Saturday, July 20 , 2024 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. Brenda was born to Harley and Lila (Halstead) Florence in Atchinson, KS, July 12, 1956. She was united in marriage to Gerald Eugene Speer on November 17, 1983, and they celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2023. They moved to their forever home in Almena in 1989.
Brenda enjoyed life and was deeply devoted to her family. She was a great baker and enjoyed playing bingo and cards, sewing, crafting, and growing flowers. Camping and fishing were some of her favorite things to do with her family. Brenda was a member of the Almena Bible Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 3288 where she served as President of the local club and was honored to be named Trustee, Inside Guard, and Outside Guard of the state office.
She is remembered by her beloved husband, Gerald Speer; children, Mike (Speer) Florence of Long Island, KS, Justin Speer and Mandy Reilly of Grand Island, NE, Gretchen Speer Patch and husband Aaron Patch of Indianapolis, IN, Morgan Speer of York, NE, Jayden Speer of Haysville, KS, Tanea Speer of Hays, KS and Johnel Speer of Almena, KS; Siblings, Dennis Florence of Hays, KS, Debbie Siard and Robert Compton of Almena, KS, Cheryl Keith and husband Bob of Almena, KS, and Patricia Pescitelli and husband John of Colby, KS; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Lila Florence and brother, Michael Florence.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Almena Bible Church, Almena, KS, 10:30 A.M. Following the service, interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Almena, KS. A visitation will be held July 25, 2024, at the Plumer-Goober Funeral Home, Norton, KS, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.
