Frances Waugh Maricle

It is with sadness that her family notes the passing of Frances Waugh Maricle home to God May 23, 2024 in Longmont, Colorado, at the age of 99.

Born the 9th of 13 children, to Charles E. & Mabel A. Waugh on November 12, 1924, in Tyrone, OK, Frances was the last surviving sibling of the Waugh family, who farmed in the Weskan, KS area throughout her life.  After graduating from Weskan High School in 1942, she attended business school in Topeka, KS, and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad Treasurer’s Dept.  She returned to Goodland, KS after some years & worked for the Zuspann & Jones Law Firm until her marriage to Thomas Jess Maricle in 1955.  She then helped at Maricle Furniture & enjoyed being at home with her children.

After the death of her husband in 1967, Frances worked as a legal secretary & in retail for many years, while raising her family, finally retiring at age 88.  She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church,  a  63-year member of Chapter Z of P.E.O.,  a founding member of Chapter ID, & a member of Welcome Wagon.  She enjoyed visiting with artists & visitors prior to her retirement from Carnegie Arts Center in Goodland. 

Frances was predeceased by her first & second husbands, her parents, & siblings.  She leaves behind 4 daughters & their spouses - Beverly & Charles Bell, Paula & Randy Flowers, Linda & Ed Thomas, and Celia & Richard Krebs.  She is also survived by 7 grandchildren & spouses, 6 great-grandchildren & 1 great great-grandchild.   Other survivors include sisters-in-law Gracia (Mrs. Robert) Maricle & Shirley (Mrs. John) Waugh & many nieces & nephews.

A Memorial Service & Celebration of Life for Frances will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1503 Bross Lane, Longmont, CO on Sunday, July 28 at 1 PM, MDT, officiated by Rev. Melissa Adzima, followed by a brief graveside service & burial Saturday, August 3, at 11:30 AM, CDT at Maple Grove Cemetery, 1100 Matt Down Road, Dodge City, KS officiated by Father Don Martin.   In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Goodland, KS or the P.E.O. Chapter ID are appreciated.
