Agnes Mae Schrant, 90, longtime Hays resident, died Friday, June 17, 2022, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
She was born January 5, 1932, in Victoria, the daughter of Frank C. and Agnes Mae (Dinkel) Sander. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1950. On June 9, 1951, Agnes was united in marriage to Ralph W. Schrant in Victoria, and they were married nearly 53 years before he preceded her in death on April 23, 2004. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, and the St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella Circle #364. Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver who possessed a strong faith in God, attended daily mass, and devoutly prayed the rosary. She was a good listener and proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, planting flowers, and reading. Agnes loved big band era music, church music, and phone conversations with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter: Linda Schnose and husband Greg of Lawrence, two granddaughters: Christina Salazar and husband Luis of Lawrence and Elise Abicht and husband Travis of Prairie Village, seven great grandchildren: Diego, Elena, and Guillermo Salazar, Owen, Hyde, Eberlee, and Evelyn Abicht, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, daughter Cynthia Schrant, four brothers: Ed, Leo, Gilbert, and Donald Schrant and three sisters: Teckla Hammerschmidt, Imelda Sander, and Isabel Hart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Basilica of St. Fidelis with Fr. James Moster officiating. Burial will follow in St. Fidelis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the church. A Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 6:00 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30, both on Thursday at the funeral home.
