Margaret Helena Schlegel, 98, died August 18, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.  She was born July 8, 1925, in Otis, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Schneider) Lebsack.

 Margaret was a graduate of Otis High School.

On October 6, 1946, she married Samuel Schlegel in Otis, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2006.

A lifetime Otis resident Margaret was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She kept a meticulous lawn and loved working in her flower garden, no weed stood a chance in her yard.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Galusha of Otis; a sister, Katherine Esser of Madison, Wisconsin; and a great-granddaughter, Adison Galusha of Great Bend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Donald W. Schlegel, grandson, David Galusha, brother, Harold Lebsack, and sisters, Sonia Nuss and Ione Leatherman.

Per Margaret’s wishes her body has been willed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for research. Cremation will then take place and a burial will be at a later date in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Otis, Kansas.
