Rolland Bernard Haselhorst

Rolland Bernard Haselhorst, 85, passed away Sept. 24, 2021, at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colo. Rolland was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Hays to Joseph and Philomena (Ryjewski) Haselhorst.

Rolland graduated from St. Josephs Military Academy in 1954 in Hays. On Sept. 10, 1957. He married Betty Honas at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. They celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Rolland enjoyed watching sports, attending his favorite Bronco games, especially the Elway years. He also enjoyed the Colorado Rockies. His favorite of all was golfing.

Rolland worked in the oil fields in the late '50s. He spent time in Oklahoma on various bridges, and lock and dams in Arkansas. In 1968, Rolland moved his family to Colorado, working on high-rises and in hospitality. The majority of his more than 50 years was in commercial construction, building health care facilities. After retiring at the age of 77, he took up a hobby of golfing. He spent numerous hours on the golf course practicing or playing nine holes by himself or with anyone who was up to the game.

Rolland is survived by his wife Betty of Parker, Colorado; sons Dr. Joseph Haselhorst and James Haselhorst of Naperville, Ill., and Jeffrey (Lisa) of Parker, Colo. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren Dr. Christine Haselhorst of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Leah Haselhorst, Lauren Haselhorst, Sarah Haselhorst all of Chicago; Mike (Joselyn) Haselhorst, Mark (Lucy) Haselhorst, Andy (Hailey) Haselhorst, and Jake Haselhorst all of Parker, Colo.; Chris (Hannah) Haselhorst of Marion, Indiana; and Sara Beth Haselhorst of Texas. Five great-grandchildren Eleanor, Ephraim, Nolan, Clarie, and Sammy. His brother Orville Haselhorst of Hays; sister-in-law Rosalina Haselhorst of Fredricksburg, Va.; brother-in-law Marvin Honas of Hays. Many nieces, nephews and friends also hold memories of Rolland.

Rolland was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Minnie; brothers Walter, Evarist, Merlin, Emil in infancy, and Dennis. In addition to Rolland’s sister-in-laws Agedia, Alice, Theresa, and Dolores. At Rolland’s request cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Rosary will be by Dean and Julie Haselhorst at 9:30 am. Mass to follow.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ellis. A luncheon will follow at Knights of Columbus Hall in Ellis.
