Marca Berger, 56, died Monday, January 16, 2023, from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.
She was born April 19, 1966, in Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas Stephen and Leola P. (Stateler) Downey. She was a graduate of Bucklin High School and received her associates degree from Dodge City Community College. On January 11, 1997, she married Bruce W. Berger in Dodge City.
Marca loved working with her husband Bruce and children at JB- (Bar) Trading Post in Minneola. Her passion was being a caregiver and daycare provider as well as loving all animals big or small. She had been a receptionist at both the Fowler Clinic and Minneola Clinic. She worked for USD 613, was a former Ensign City Clerk, a volunteer firefighter for Ensign, a member and a director in Dodge City Roundup.
She was a member of Cross Walk Christian Church in Minneola. She loved attending her children’s activities, spending time with her grandson, riding horses with her kids, dancing (especially to George Strait music) and was “mom” to more than just her kids. She enjoyed crafting, bowling, ladies Bible study, being part of the Gold Buckle, running concession stands, scorekeeping for baseball games, helping with prom and serving her community.
Survivors include: her husband, Bruce; their children, Cody Berger and fiancée Lacy Woods, Dodge City, daughter, Taryn Berger and fiancé Cooper Johnson, Ashland, son, Collin Berger, Hays, son Connor Berger, Ensign; mother, Leola Downey, Ford; 2 brothers, Stephen Downey and wife Gina, Ford, Rick Downey and wife Melba, Dodge City; sister Mendy McGregor and husband Roy, Dodge City; Mother-in-law, Marti Spencer and husband Ron, Dodge City; father-in-law, Bill Berger and wife Susie, Hays; brother-in-law, Brett Berger and wife Tammy, Dodge City; Sister-in-law, Christina Boyd and husband Brent, Jetmore; and her grandson, Stetson Johnson, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 20, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, with Pastor Brad Kefauver officiating. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
