Edwin Adolph Scheck

Edwin Adolph Scheck, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Edwin was born on September 3, 1925, on the family farm in rural Ellis County, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Magdalen (Windholz) Scheck.  He grew up on the farm north of Walker, Kansas, and attended school in Victoria, Kansas.  He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Rita Rose Bellendir on August 08, 1949, at the St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas.  From this union, Edwin and Rita were blessed with 3 children, sons Gerald and Stephen and daughter Karen.  He enjoyed working the family farm and also worked for the city of Russell for 37 years in the water department.  He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and was also a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus member.  He was also a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and American Legion Post #99.  He enjoyed working with wood, gardening and fishing but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving family include his sons Gerald Scheck of New Port Coast, California and Stephen Scheck of Salem, Oregon and daughter Karen Scheck of Topeka, Kansas; sister Lena Mader of Victoria, Kansas; 3 grandchildren Thomas and Trevor Scheck and Amelia Scheck; and great granddaughter Lucy Scheck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita on December 06, 2013, brothers Peter, Seraphine, Victor, Melvin, Gilbert and Linus Scheck; sisters Bertha Denning, Mary Weigel, Rubina Dinkel, Katie Scheck and Leona Scheck

A celebration of the funeral mass for Edwin will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  A vigil and rosary will be held at 7 P.M. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the church.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the mortuary. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
