Roberta June Feary was born in Guthrie Oklahoma, September 12, 1931. She passed away February 20, 2024, at Ascension Living Via Christi Village, Hays, Kansas. Her parents were James Grover Feary and Nellie (Ferree) Feary. They preceded her in death and are buried at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Oklahoma. Roberta was a devoted member at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver Colorado. Monsignor Richard Charles Hiester, a Choral Director, was a friend and mentor during Roberta’s time in Denver. Roberta organized and directed the Denver Centennial Choristers in the 1950s.
Roberta taught both elementary and high school classes in California. She later worked for the Grolier Education Corporation which later became the Scholastic Corporation. Most recently Roberta volunteered as a “Foster Grandparent,” “Grandma Bobbi,” at Roosevelt Elementary School in Hays, Kansas. Roberta enjoyed working with children and was loved by many.
She received a Bachelor of Arts in 1952 and a Master of Arts in 1954 from Tulsa University in Oklahoma. Music was one of Roberta’s many talents. She was an accomplished pianist, organist, flutist, cellist, and accompanied Spanish Mass in Denver, Colorado.
Roberta’s favorite hobby was grooming her prize-winning dogs. Her Pomeranians received many awards including “Best of the Breed” at dog shows in various regions from 1978-1998. Other dogs she owned included a German Shepherd, a registered Therapy dog, and one of the last Bell Haven Collies.
Roberta is survived by cousins in Colorado and North Dakota. She will be buried with her parents at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie Oklahoma. No services are planned.
